Kauri Apartments

Situated in the heart of Browns Bay township the Kauri Apartments is an innovative and appropriate urban intensification project, incorporating 53 generous apartments across five storeys.

The site for the proposed Kauri Apartments was formerly home to the Brown family homestead, the first house built in Browns Bay in 1876. The original humble dwelling, constructed of native Kauri weatherboards, is echoed in the choice of materiality for the new proposed development. A modern yet beachy and relaxed material pallet has been selected that reflects the growing urban nature of a township that is also still centred around a relaxed beach lifestyle. Natural timber is used widely throughout the building, bringing warmth and complimenting the informal beach aesthetic. Planting throughout the building brings vibrancy and softens the urban nature of this project. This includes a lattice of winding vines strung through the rear courtyard that creates a lush green outlook from the rear of the apartments. Natural materials are used throughout the interior spaces echoing the beach aesthetic expressed on the exterior of the building. Generous 2.6 meter ceilings and full height glazing to the north, east and west leaving the apartments feeling light, spacious and open with panoramic views of the ocean. Large decks & courtyards are proposed for all units allowing residents to fully enjoy outdoor beach living. The Kauri Apartments is an exciting development, providing not only an elegant landmark within Browns Bay but amenities to its local community.
